Hello! My name is Chuan Deible -Quarterson, and I am a business owner based in Manchester, Connecticut. 

I work for a prominent kids' entertainment princess company in Connecticut and the surrounding New England states as the resident Bayou Princess ( based on the fictional inspired character of the The Princess and the Frog).

Hello! My name is Chuan Deible -Quarterson, and I am a business owner based in Manchester, Connecticut. 

I work for a prominent kids' entertainment princess company in Connecticut and the surrounding New England states as the resident Bayou Princess ( based on the fictional inspired character of the The Princess and the Frog). 

I am one of the few working POC princesses in Connecticut and New England, and  have been doing this now for roughly 5- 6 years. In the entire time I’ve been working in this capacity, I have never seen an all-Black Princess company in the region.

This company's staff includes people representing all children of color, genders, and other representations of themselves. There is a market for us. 

I have gone to many parties as a Princess of color where little girls of color wished there were more princesses that look like them! 

A defining moment was three years ago when I met a little girl at a cosplay convention in CT. The girl saw me dressed as a princess - Cinderella - from the play of Roger and Hammerstein. She said to me as I walked by her: “I wish I could be a princess, but my hair is too kinky and I‘m too dark to be one.“

I was in tears and pulled my crown off and handed to her. She smiled so big and lit up and I told her to keep her head high and walk like the queen that she was. Her mother thanked me and I knew then I needed to start this company. 

I have brought many classic Princesses to life as a woman of color and have been accepted among all communities, white and black. But it’s  time for us as Black queens and princesses to step forward and show off our crowns - and tiaras, too!  My motivation and reasoning for this company is to give children of color the empowerment to believe they can become something more than society has allowed them to be to date.

I want us to be role models and be able to give back to our community. As a woman of color at the head of an up-and-coming, black-owned company, I am hoping to partner with other organizations and small businesses. I really see this growing into something positive and inspiring for the next generation of children.
We are small for now, but the mission for Sugar and Spice is to represent ALL communities that may rarely be seen in their own communities. 

And what is the "Sugar" in the Sugar & Spice? It is three good princess friends who work alongside of us to help see this grow too.
These three princesses come from my sister company with whom I work, KO Parties - Party Performances.  They were the first to open their doors for an inclusive POC casting of different princesses in New England, and they are the foundation upon which we expand and grow.

Our doors will be open to all who want to see changes in the princess world of color, including our LGBTQ 🏳️‍🌈 friends and families.

Qualifications

• Be able to sing or sing along with tracks.
• Have reliable transportation.
• Must be 18+, although we would consider reliable 16/17 year-olds with WRITTEN parental permission.
• Can pass a background check.
• Reliable availability for weekends and summer
• Experience with children a plus.
• The ability and willingness to stay in character at all times.
• Be willing to put in the work and conduct the research on all characters you will portray.
• Attend all required trainings provided by the company.
